An Evening with Tyler Hamilton

secretRACE

Signature Cycles Greenwich
Thursday, May 16 from 7 to 9pm

Please join us for an evening with Tyler Hamilton, former teammate of Lance Armstrong and author of “The Secret Race: Inside the Hidden World of the Tour de France: Doping, Cover-ups, and Winning at All Costs”.

The evening includes a presentation by Tyler Hamilton, followed by a candid question and answer session.

Tyler Hamilton was once one of the world’s top-ranked cyclists. In 2012, he released his memoir, a riveting journey into the heart of a never before seen world, the stark choices that went along with his decision to compete at a world class level, and his complicated relationship with Lance Armstrong.

This is an RSVP only event so please email lori@signaturecycles.com by Thursday, May 9th if you plan on attending.

Signature Cycles Greenwich Weekly Group Rides

SaturdayRide

It’s that time of the year again when people are putting away their trainers and taking their bikes back out into the daylight. We think this is a great time to remind everybody of the two weekly group rides that we lead from the Greenwich studio.

Our year-round Saturday ride departs the Greenwich studio at 9am. This moderately paced 27 mile ride features 1900ft of climbing and averages 15-17 mph as it rolls through the hills of back-country Greenwich. A map of the route can be found here.

On Wednesday nights, our Women’s ride leaves from the Studio at 6pm. Four time New York Masters State Champion Lori Hoefer leads this delightful romp through some of Greenwich’s finer roads. This women’s-only ride requires a road bike and averages 20-25 miles at a 14-15 mph pace.

Greg’s Majorca Ride Report

Today we want to share a ride report from Signature Cycles client Greg Walters who is currently enjoying Signature’s annual Majorca trip.

DCIM100GOPRO

Never have I suffered more physically than I did today. Never has suffering been more rewarding. We only rode about 70 miles, but climbed nearly 7,000 vertical feet. We rode two category 4 climbs, one category 2 climb, and one category 1 climb (which took over an hour to summit).

Something happened on the first big climb (category 2 with an average grade over 6%). The pain settled quickly. I have never ridden better and I certainly have never climbed better. I passed 11 other riders, including 7 Germans. Passing Germans is remarkably satisfying. (Editors note: It’s not uncommon to get passed going uphill by a German in the big ring while riding in Majorca – they tend to be fit!) After 26 minutes of climbing, I caught Justin’s group, which had started several minutes ahead of me.

Then we prepared for a beautiful beast.

No photo can capture the glory of Sa Colabra (the category 1 climb). We climbed to the top of Sa Colabra from the backside, wound around a 360 degree turn and found ourselves overlooking a vista of a twisty descent of several thousand feet over 6.5 miles to a port below. The road snaked about hairpin turns of 10%+ grades, cut through rock, and disappeared over ridges. From the top, the road looked like 20 discontinuous pieces of asphalt dropped from above.

“Blasphemy, I tell you.” my good friend scolded me.

“Why would a company that built its stellar reputation on a custom platform entertain the idea of offering a non custom product line?” he continued the beat down.

It was a gut check, for sure. I know what attracts me to Specialized S-Works and Shiv offerings. I have seen first hand, while spending time at the mother ship in Morgan Hill, California, the attention to detail in the design, engineering and execution of these fine production bikes. I have ridden all the S-Works models when I could steal time away from my teaching duties at the Masters Body Geometry Fit classes. There is no doubting that Specialized S-Works models deliver something special while cruising the Santa Cruz mountain ranges.  Yes, “something special,” is critical in meeting our criteria to offer a product for sale, but is it enough?

It was time to put this decision through the litmus test of our corporate mission.

Signature Cycles is a service based company with a primary goal of offering our clients the best quality products, the highest level of expertise and service, and unparalleled ongoing support.

We create  a customer experience that is specifically tailored to our individual client’s cycling aspirations, delivered in a professional manner in which every client is made to feel understood and important.  We offer exemplary services and products which ultimately create raving fans.

When put through the test, Specialized S-Works and Shivs meet our criteria and then some. We have chosen Specialized S-Works and Shivs for the quality, innovation and variety the lines offer our discerning clientele.

Our commitment to a Fit First philosophy will never waiver. We believe that your bike doesn’t exist, until we fit you. Specialized S-Works and Shivs, like our other non custom models offered in our current lines,  will need to fit first before one will be allowed to roll out the door.

“Blasphemy?”  I think not. The only blasphemy part is that we will only be offering Specialized in our Greenwich studio. We sit too close to a current Specialized S-Works dealer in Manhattan and will respect their territory privileges.

So, say it is so. We welcome Specialized to the Signature Cycles family of the world’s best frame and bicycle offerings and are excited to add them to our stable. Please reach out to us in Greenwich when you are ready to see what all the fuss is about and have us check if one of the Specialized S-Works or Shiv geometries fit your positional coordinates.

If you are new to Signature Cycles and haven’t had a Sizecycle fitting, this would be the perfect time to get Fit and dial in your non custom current bike or take the plunge and discover what is special about riding a Specialized.

Better Posture for Better Cycling Clinic

Signature Cycles Greenwich
Thursday January 17th at 6pm

It is well known that poor posture while cycling can impact stability and result in back and neck pain and even pain in wrists, hands and ankles. Incorrect posture also limits maximum oxygen intake which decreases performance while proper posture can make pedaling easier and breathing more effective. By improving your posture, you can help reduce the chance of injury and pain.

Learn more about better posture for cycling with Dr. Beverley Marr of Stamford Healthcare Associates, chiropractor and creator of The SOAR Method for Perfect Posture, on Thursday, Jan. 17 at 6 p.m. at Signature Cycles. Designed to improve posture, The SOAR Method is a 15-minute sequential stretching and strengthening technique based on the principles of balance, strength and agility.

Dr. Marr will give posture assessments and tips on maintaining good posture while riding. She and her team will also demonstrate their new Posture Board to further improve posture and offer demos of low level laser therapy which uses light waves to reduce inflammation and pain and is used by pro cyclists.

Grant’s Last Day

Grant Salter

After 17 years in the cycling industry, our invaluable Grant Salter is leaving Signature Cycles and heading to Nashville, TN, where he will take over management of a high-end custom car and motorcycle operation called the Greening Auto Company. Eight years and three months have passed since Grant moved from Michigan to Sloatsburg, NY, upon Paul’s job offer to help him build and fit bikes in his garage in Central Valley, NY. Grant came to help grow and shape a business that would be imitated and studied throughout the cycling industry. As of 2008, he is still one of the – if not the – most successful custom-bike consultant on the planet. With little time to spare on his last day in the office he helped build, I asked him a few questions:
