Fall Foliage Ride – Sunday October 19th

Ultracycling Fall14 Cover-6688

Our favorite ride of the year is the ever-popular Signature Cycles Fall Foliage Ride. This year the 5th Annual Fall Foliage Ride is scheduled for Sunday, October 19th.

The scenic 40-mile ride through Fairfield and Westchester counties will begin at Signature Cycles’ Greenwich location at 14 Railroad Ave. The incredibly scenic ride will wind its way up to Armonk, NY with a rest stop at Adopt A Dog. After a brief refueling and “puppy fix” riders will ride back to Greenwich on some of the best roads the area has to offer.

Ride leaders will accompany various groups accommodating paces starting at 14mph and up. Road bikes are required for all group riders. Cue sheets will be available for any riders wishing the tackle the route on their own.

Registration begins at 7:30am at Signature Cycles, 14 Railroad Ave. A $50 donation will go directly to Adopt A Dog to support their untiring efforts to provide dogs a safe haven until they find their furr-ever home .

Half a Wheel

Half a wheel can make the difference between a bad day, good day and a great day. We have all been there, staring at half of a wheel with mixed emotions.

My last two summers have been mixed with emotions when it comes to riding. Last summer I had an external Iliac bypass, which sidelined me until the spring when I got to test my new plumbing in Majorca and Girona. Four weeks after spinning mega miles in Spain, I was flying at our local Saturday club ride. Winning the sprint was more of a choice rather than a lucky possibility. I was back and felt invincible. It didn’t last long though. Just a few weeks after feeling like superman, I was exposed to my kryptonite. My right leg started to fatigue during any power efforts and my Garmin confirmed that sustained wattage of more than twenty second wasn’t feasible anymore.

Not riding with the “A” group wasn’t an option. I didn’t have the energy or the desire to find a new group of riders that would tolerate my idiosyncrasies on the bike. After getting medical confirmation that my right leg had only 60% blood flow, I elected to get angioplasty to reopen my artery, so I can rejoin my group of comrades on the bike.

Before.

Before.

Ten days have passed since the procedure and today’s club ride was going to be the test. My last few rides had me off the back or dropped before the serious climbs even were in site. Today’s goal, get over the climbs and hopefully finish with the group. Continue reading

Where Does Your Bike Sleep?

We all have to find the right spot to store our bikes when we’re not riding them and depending on where you live and the logistics of your space, bike storage can require a bit of creativity.

Whether you’re a city flat dweller, have a 3 car garage, or need to navigate stairs to get your bike on and off the street, you want a safe and easily accessible location so nothing discourages you from getting your bike out on the road.

Do you have a cool storage system or DIY solution? Does your bike sleep in your bedroom? Do you hang it from the ceiling? Do you squeeze it into a closet? We want to know – Where Does Your Bike Sleep?

Send us a photo and description of your bike and we’ll share it in our Signature Cycles #wheredoesyourbikesleep album. You can upload your photo directly to our Facebook wall or send us an email at info@signaturecycles.com . Please include your name, a description of your bike and anything else you’d like to share about your personal bike storage solutions.

ASSOS S7 Shorts: Tested, Amazed, and Now Available

The bike industry seldom sees extreme innovations; rather, continual refinements. Year to year, we see new technologies introduced into all aspects of cycling including performance, aerodynamics, and safety. While the marketing departments of our industry are quick to use phrases like “game changer” and “industry defining,” the reality is that small improvements don’t usually justify going out and buying a new bike every year. Among the sea of small innovations, the cycling apparel world has not been rocked in some time… but that’s about to change.

Four years in the making Assos has finally introduced their new S7 line which just may deliver on the promise of “Game Changer”. The S5 Series we have all grown to love has been completely retired, and our trusted Mille Bibs are something of the past. This is a strong statement from the Swiss company, and one which sets the bar higher than ever. The real question is does Assos deliver? Yes. Yes they do.

Here at Signature Cycles we were lucky enough to receive a pair of their Equipe S7 Bibshorts back in October. Since then we have tested these, and can easily say that a new bar has been set. These bibs, placed one tier higher than their entry-level short, are more comfortable than any bib we have ever used, even Assos’ own FI13 flagship offering from the S5 generation. Much can be said about the technology that has been put into S7, the testing, the fabrics, and what people will notice. For us, it’s simply about the ride. If you’re considering purchasing one new item this season, a pair of S7 bibshorts from Assos should be at the very top.

Strength Conditioning & Injury Prevention Clinic with ML STRENGTH

Clinic with ML Strength

Join us in our Greenwich Studio on Thursday, March 13th at 6pm for a hands-on clinic on strength conditioning and and injury prevention.

Andrew Laux, MS, from ML Strength in White Plains, NY will share his insight and expertise on training aspects specific to cycling. Andrew will lead us through a variety of exercises teaching proper form and execution.

The goals of the clinic are to provide those attending with strategies for reducing tension, developing strength in deficient muscle groups and improving pedal stroke efficiency.  A portion of the clinic will focus on injury prevention through exercises geared towards the development of strength in stabilizer muscles to reduce the wear and tear of joints, while insuring all energy is placed linearly into the pedals.

Please wear comfortable clothes that allow for movement and bring a mat or towel to lay on.

ML Strength is a small, private sports performance facility located in downtown White Plains. The mission of ML Strength is to provide a professional athlete experience for all clients.

RSVP required as this will be an active clinic and space is limited.

Winter: An argument for the “All-Road” bicycle

Sunday Ride at Lake Welch
Let’s face it, this winter is never-ending!
I feel I can safely speak for everyone when I say, I’m ready for Spring.
Here at Signature, our road bikes are either collecting dust in the corner of our homes, or the look like they’ve been dragged through a war zone, covered in mud and salt.

Our beautiful Parlees, Passonis, and Gurus are sitting on the sidelines, like high-performance sports cars, garaged because of this weather. So what are we left with to ride? Well, that’s an interesting question, lets introduce our “other” bikes.

This past year, Justin and I decided to go “outside of the box” with our next builds, and began to explore all the interesting technologies the industry had to offer; including disc brakes, hydraulic options, electronic shifting, and more. The result; two bikes that didn’t quite fit the mold, however turned out to be everything we could ask for in this winter weather.
